Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Speech & Language Therapist who is keen to extend their clinical skills in the acute adult acute inpatient setting. You should be experienced in the management of dysphagia and communication impairment across a broad range of disorders. You will be expected to take SLT students on clinical placements with appropriate support from the Universities and SLT colleagues.
Although this role is based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, there will be close working with the team on other trust sites with need for clinical cover at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and potentially Andover War Memorial Hospital when staff are on leave.
We are keen to recruit someone who will promote the Speech & Language Therapy service across the Trust with passion and enthusiasm. Given the changing demands of working within the NHS, the successful post-holder will need to demonstrate flexibility, an ability to work under pressure and a willingness to become involved in future service development.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a specialist inpatient speech and language therapy service to adults with acquired communication and EDS disorders.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner, in partnership with patients, their families, carers and other health care professionals, to deliver integrated packages of care to adults with acquired communication and EDS difficulties.
* Supervise and train speech and language therapy students, other health care professionals and staff from other agencies who work with adults with acquired communication and EDS difficulties.
* Provide general support and mentorship to less experienced speech and language therapy colleagues working within the adult service.
* Provide clinical supervision and/or line management (as required) to the Band 5 post-holder.
* Offer training to other health care professional colleagues and agencies.
* Accurate use of a number of IT skills to optimise patient care.
* Work bank holidays on a rota basis, agreed with the team.
Job responsibilities
You will work directly with patients across the hospital sites in general wards and critical care with a range of acute reasons for admission to a hospital site. You will be working with the MDT to optimise their care.
Training and qualifications
* Recognised SLT degree or equivalent.
* Member of the RCSLT.
* HCPC registered.
* Evidence of relevant CPD.
* Post graduate courses relevant to EDS.
Experience and knowledge
* Experience as a band 5.
* Experience working in acute settings.
* Experience in managing EDS with minimal support.
* Experience working with a range of adult communication disorders.
* Knowledge of clinical governance.
* Awareness of service development projects in previous work places.
* Experience of delivery in a range of settings.
* Experience of providing training to other health care professionals.
* Experience of providing placement education for students.
Skills and ability
* Competent in a range of IT skills.
* Effective written and verbal presentation skills.
* Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to cope with working in a stressful and unpredictable environment.
