An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant Colorectal/General Surgeon to join the Division of Surgery at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.
You will join a large, dedicated colorectal team delivering a comprehensive service to a population of approximately 500,000 people across Peterborough, Hinchingbrooke, and Stamford Hospitals. The department performs around 300 colorectal cancer resections annually, the majority laparoscopically, and has excellent endoscopy and theatre facilities, including a bowel cancer screening centre.

Main duties of the job
As a Consultant in Colorectal and General Surgery, your key responsibilities will include:
* Taking full clinical responsibility for colorectal and general surgical patients.
* Promoting the further development of colorectal surgical services.
* Supporting the delivery of clinical governance through audit, review and quality improvement initiatives.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the collective aims of the department.
* Developing innovative working practices and supporting the evolving contribution of non-medical staff.
* Supervising, training and managing junior medical staff.
* Contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate education and clinical training programmes.
* Working with the Clinical Directorate management team to ensure that national targets and quality standards are achieved.
You will also act asEducational and Clinical Supervisor for Foundation Year, Core and Specialist Trainees and will be encouraged to lead and present audits at monthly Departmental Quality Governance meetings.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the 1:10 on-call rota and contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery across Trust sites.

Leadership/Management Skills
* Ability to both lead and work within a team

Academic Achievements (including research and publications)
* Publication of post graduate articles in peer reviewed journal
* Experience of recruitment to NIHR Portfolio trials
Teaching and Training
* Experience in training Resident doctors
Knowledge/Skills/Clinical Expertise
* Demonstration of specialist knowledge and skills in the management of Colorectal diseases
* Demonstration of specialist knowledge and skills in the management of rectal cancer
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical management of Emergency General Surgery patients
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical management of Colorectal patients
* Able to offer expert advice on the management of Colorectal problems
* JAG certified as independent for colonoscopy and gastroscopy
* To have completed Definitive Surgical Trauma Skills training
