Early Years Lead Practitioner - Under 2's

Job type: Full time, permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 (dependant on qualifications / experience)
Annual leave: 28 days (pro rata)b> plus Christmas shut-down

Wee Mack’s is looking for a compassionate and motivated Under 2s Lead Practitioner to guide our baby room team and create a warm, nurturing, and inspiring start for our youngest children.

You’ll lead by example—championing high-quality care, responsive interactions, and play-based learning that supports every baby’s emotional and developmental journey.


What you’ll do:

* Lead the Under 2s team in delivering outstanding care and early learning experiences in line with Wee Mack’s ethos and national frameworks.
* Foster a calm, nurturing, and stimulating environment that supports curiosity, sensory exploration, and secure attachments.
* Be an active, hands-on role model—promoting best practice in responsive caregiving, planning, and observation.
* Work in partnership with parents and carers, ensuring excellent communication and continuity of care for each child.
* Oversee daily routines, room organisation, and the maintenance of safe, engaging play spaces.
* Support staff development through mentoring, reflection, and ongoing professional learning.
* Maintain accurate observations, planning, and assessments to track each child’s progress and wellbeing.
* Collaborate with the management team to uphold high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.


What we’re looking for:

* Must hold an SSSC registrable qualification at Practitioner level (SCQF Level 7) or above, and be working towards or hold a Lead Practitioner qualification (SCQF Level 9).
* Experience working with under 2s in a leadership or senior practitioner role.
* Strong understanding of early attachment, responsive care, and schematic play.
* Sound knowledge of current frameworks and guidance, including Realising the Ambition and GIRFEC.
* Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills.
* A passion for nurturing the wellbeing and curiosity of our youngest learners and an interest in forest learning.
* Must have or be willing to obtain PVG membership with Disclosure Scotland.

This post is regulated work with children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
