Assistant Ranger Apprenticeship - Ashbourne

Summary

Join us on a National Trust apprenticeship where we'll support and develop you to play an integral part in our work to tackle climate change, protect historic sites, and help people and nature thrive. No experience needed, just enthusiasm and a desire to learn.

As an Assistant Ranger apprentice, you'll work as part of the rangering team to conserve the environment that makes the countryside distinctive and special, helping to care for our protected landscapes.

This role can lead to an assistant ranger or ranger position and potentially progress to a Level 4 Countryside Ranger apprenticeship after gaining additional experience.

For more information about our apprenticeship programme, please click here: National Trust Jobs :: Apprenticeships.

What it's like to work here

You'll work outdoors in all weather as part of our ranger teams, supporting our strategy to restore a healthy, beautiful, and natural environment. Your role will focus on protecting and enhancing the health and wildlife richness of our countryside, preserving its benefits, and helping visitors connect with conservation efforts.

Training will be delivered through mandatory week-long college blocks and online learning, with all expenses and travel paid. Opportunities may also include travel to other National Trust locations with overnight stays to broaden your experience.

You will be based at Ilam, near Ashbourne, working across iconic sites like Dovedale, Ilam Park, and the surrounding White Peak countryside, involved in protecting woodland canopies, grasslands, and rivers, while enabling public access.

What you'll be doing

Working alongside your mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship, you'll develop skills and knowledge relevant to the Countryside Worker Level 2 standard. You'll attend regular review meetings, complete mandatory e-learning, courses, and training, and be responsible for your own progress.

Who we're looking for

In addition to the qualities listed in the role profile, we'd love to hear from you if you meet the following eligibility criteria:

* At least 2 GCSEs including English and maths at grade E/2, functional skills level 1, or equivalent (EHCP holders can have entry level 3 in English and maths).
* Aged 16 or over and completed Year 11.
* Not in full-time education.
* Right to work in the UK and been resident for three consecutive years before starting.
* Not enrolled in other training or education programs.
* Able to travel to the work location.

If aged 18 or under and without grade C/4 in English and maths, you'll be enrolled on Level 2 functional skills as part of your apprenticeship. Support will be provided for those aged 19 or over who wish to complete it.

Qualifications or substantial relevant work experience in related subjects may affect government funding eligibility.
