Service Manager - Compliance Permanent Grade 6 - £52,413 - £64,811 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join Birmingham City Council's expanding Private Rented Sector Property Licensing Team. We are seeking an experienced manager to lead on compliance and enforcement for the department. You will be responsible for a driven and dynamic team. About the Role The successful candidate will manage a large team of Investigators, Team Leaders and Enforcement Officers undertaking investigations, conducting inspections, and enforcing housing legislation to deliver the aims and objectives of the Licensing Regime. This is a leadership position requiring strategic and operational experience and expertise in housing law, general enforcement and public health. The role is based at the Regulation and Enforcement Offices in Birmingham. This is an office-based role; you will be expected to travel around the city for which you will be remunerated for the use of your car. About You You will be an expert in ensuring compliance, safety and public protection. You will understand Local Authority debt pursuance and financial recovery. You will have a proven track record of successful enforcement outcomes. You will have experience of enforcement related policy writing. You will have extensive management experience in a Service Manager, or equivalent, position within a regulatory capacity. A skilled manager able to motivate and develop your team to deliver their objectives. You will have experience and understanding of sensitive political environments and the ability to manage and navigate these. You will be a fast, strong and sound decision maker. You will also have: Knowledge and practical experience in enforcement across the breadth of housing and public health legislation. An ability to prioritise and manage your own workload to meet deadlines in a busy environment with competing demands. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) including experience of writing and presenting reports to Council committees. Strong IT skills including experience of reporting software.
