Job description
We are looking for an experienced SEN Tutor to provide high‑quality 1:1 Maths and English (Year 10) tuition for a young person with complex trauma and attachment‑based needs. This role requires a highly skilled, emotionally attuned practitioner who can combine academic teaching with mentoring, relationship‑building and therapeutic support strategies.
About the Role
1. 15 hours per week of 1:1 tuition
2. Teaching Year 10 Maths and English with a strong emphasis on confidence‑building and engagement
3. Sessions delivered in a safe, structured and adaptable learning environment
4. Strong requirement for a mentoring, relational approach to re‑engage the learner
5. Focus on improving attendance, emotional regulation and core academic skills
About the Student
The young person has experienced significant early trauma, leading to:
6. difficulties with emotional regulation
7. challenges around trust and attachment
8. sensory processing needs
9. poor executive functioning
10. disrupted peer relationships
11. long‑term disengagement from school
She has not accessed full‑time education for several years, so the tutor must be patient, consistent and skilled in supporting re‑engagement.
Key Objectives
The tutor will support the learner to:
12. Develop core numeracy and literacy skills
13. Increase confidence and engagement
14. Attend more than 90% of AP tuition sessions
15. Build towards attending school at least 80% of the time, evidenced termly
16. Improve emotional regulation, coping skills and self‑belief
17. Rebuild trust in adults and in the learning process
We are seeking a tutor who:
18. Has experience working with young people affected by early trauma or insecure attachment
19. Is trained in (or confident applying) trauma‑informed and attachment‑aware practice
20. Can deliver both teaching and mentoring within a single blended role
21. Can manage dysregulation calmly and model steady emotional responses
22. Is confident with small‑step teaching, differentiation and catch‑up interventions
23. Can create a safe, predictable environment to rebuild educational engagement
24. Understands how to support sensory needs, flexible working environments and regular regulation breaks
Your must have at least 6 months experience within a UK based education setting.
