Main duties of the job
This appointment is for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Urological cancers and Germ Cell tumours based at University Hospital Southampton.
* Provide specialist Medical Oncology input with expertise in chemotherapy and immunotherapy for these groups of patients.
* Treat patients with Urological and Germ Cell tumours at UHS.
* Provide oncology input to the UHS Urology MDT and Germ Cell MDT.
This post is available as a part time 8.25 PA post. Job share applicants will be considered.

Job responsibilities
* Be a member of the Urological and Germ Cell MDT meetings
* Participate in the management of Urological and Germ Cell tumour patients
* Attend the Uro and Germ Cell MDT meetings
* Share the patient referrals
* Support the Patient Triggered Follow Up (PTFU) pathways
* Provide medical oncology expertise to the Uro/GCT services
* Plan and supervise chemotherapy/immunotherapy
* Conduct on-treatment review clinics
* Supervise care of inpatients providing cross-cover for annual leave for other Uro/GCT Consultants at UHS
* Provide Consultant input to Acute Oncology service at UHS
* Engage in peer review meetings
* Participate in the recruitment and running of clinical trials

Person Specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Medical Oncology or be within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview. Non-UK trained applicants should be on the Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion within 6 months of interview date
* Urology and Germ Cell Tumour experience
* Evidence of involvement in clinical research and publication in peer-reviewed journals
* Postgraduate degree (eg an MD, PhD or equivalent)
Aptitudes and skills
* Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
* Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
* Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
* Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines
* Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
