System Operations is responsible for operating, controlling and monitoring the Gas National Transmission System in real time, making gas available when and where our customers across Great Britain need it playing an essential role in keeping Britain’s homes warm and its industry moving. We also facilitate the efficient operation of the GB gas market.

About The Role

As a Risk Lead within National Gas, you’ll play a critical role in managing and enhancing our risk posture with a focus on cyber. Sitting at the heart of System Operations, you’ll work with subject matter experts to identify, track, and mitigate cyber risks that could impact the safe and secure operation of the UK’s gas transmission network.

You’ll work closely with the central security function and key stakeholders to ensure that cyber risks associated with System Operations are effectively managed and escalated, and that our response capabilities are aligned with regulatory requirements, including the Network Information System (NIS) Regulations and the Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF).

You’ll lead the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Acting as a subject matter expert, you’ll provide guidance and oversight to operational teams within your area and ensure that cyber risks are captured, tracked, and escalated appropriately.

You’ll also support the delivery of cyber-related projects, ensuring they align with operational needs and risk priorities. You will also act as a business expert to ensure our NIS reporting obligations are met by working closely with key stakeholders across security and the wider business.

Collaboration is key. You’ll work with internal teams across Security, the broader National Gas, and represent the System Operator in discussions with external bodies (via Security).

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you'll be an experienced risk management professional with a strong understanding of cyber security, critical infrastructure architecture, and regulatory frameworks. You have proven experience in risk management, particularly within the context of the NIS Regulations, and if you don't have working knowledge of the National Transmission System already, you'll be motivated to learn and understand more from the SME's around you.

You’re a confident communicator and relationship builder, capable of influencing across all levels of the organisation. You’re structured, analytical, and able to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team. A degree in this role is not mandatory and we welcome candidates who are qualified by experience to apply.
