Senior practitioner - youth justice service

Salary and hours

Grade G: £42,839 – £48,226 per annum (dependent on experience). 37 hours per week.


Responsibilities

* Assisting the Team Manager/Deputy Service Manager in providing an effective service that meets the individual needs of young people and their families to reduce and prevent further offending.
* Taking a senior role and first line management responsibility for designated areas of a multi‑agency Youth Justice Service and other preventative strands.
* Adhering to the YJB Performance Management Framework, including local and national standards, and applying evidence‑based practice.
* Managing a reduced caseload of children and young people with complex needs.
* Supporting staff to manage their caseload and ensuring planning meetings and reviews are completed within required timescales and KPIs are met.
* Ensuring the safeguarding of children and young people, with a focus on risk, safety and wellbeing management plans, and chairing associated meetings.
* Promoting links and the use of specialist services and partners to support the delivery of intervention plans.
* Maintaining up‑to‑date information systems.
* Delivering direct work/creative interventions to young people on a 1:1 basis or in small groups when appropriate.
* Attending court and representing the Youth Justice Service when required (training will be provided).
* Maintaining the health and safety of employees.
* Actively promoting best‑value principles and continuous improvement in service provision.


Qualifications

* National qualification (degree level) in a youth‑related subject, social work, probation or youth justice.
* At least 24 months experience working in a multi‑agency Youth Offending Service with young people and their parents.
* Experienced case holder/management.
* Experience working as part of a multi‑agency team, preferably in a Youth Justice setting.
* Experience of undertaking court work and working within the criminal justice system.
* Experience using any of the Youth Justice System’s databases (preferably Childview) and basic computer skills.
* Understanding of the legal framework of Youth Justice, including National Standards, Key Elements of Effective Practice, the Scaled Approach and a Child First Approach.
