Overview

12-month fixed term, 32 hours per week. Applicants seeking to work less than 32 hours per week may also be considered and are encouraged to discuss.

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology to join BCHC's neuropsychology and rehabilitation services. Funding has been secured to develop psychologically informed care in stroke rehabilitation across the system.

The post-holder will work alongside the Divisional Lead Consultant Neuropsychologist and collaborate with colleagues at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust to develop a framework and training for psychologically informed care across stroke-rehabilitation services in Birmingham and Solihull. The postholder will also provide specialist clinical neuropsychology support to the multidisciplinary Solihull Adult Neurorehabilitation Team.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience in Neuropsychology and, at minimum, have completed the underpinning knowledge component of qualifications towards eligibility for entry onto the Specialist Register for Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN). Demonstrable strategic leadership experience relevant to this Consultant-level position is essential.


Responsibilities

Main duties of the job, including:

* Clinical neuropsychology service provision within the Solihull Adult Neurorehabilitation Team, collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues across the system to develop screening protocols and associated training.
* Identify training and development needs for stroke rehabilitation staff and develop and deliver training.
* Lead the scoping of need for psychological services in community stroke rehabilitation across Birmingham, Solihull and surrounding areas (BSoL) and develop a proposed staffing model and investment case for the system.
* Provide supervision and leadership support to psychological professionals in BCHC's community Neurorehabilitation services, supported by the Divisional Lead Consultant Psychologist.

Job description and responsibilities

To undertake and advise other psychologists in highly specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments of complex cases, assessing cognition, personality, beliefs, attitudes, behaviour, emotional function, and other relevant psychological characteristics and dimensions relevant to neuropsychological difficulties.

To develop highly complex formulations and implement plans for the formal neuropsychological treatment and/or management of clients’ highly complex psychological problems (e.g., family breakdown, serious mental illness, vulnerable adults, aggressive and violent behaviour) using advanced knowledge across care settings.

To develop and implement highly complex plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of presenting problems based on specialist knowledge and evidence-based practices.

To facilitate dissemination of effective evidence-informed psychological practice by developing and supporting the use of psychologically and neuropsychologically informed protocols, guidelines and procedures within routine practice.


Person Specification

Qualifications

* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development.
* Postgraduate diploma or equivalent accounting for the underpinning knowledge component of specialist training in Clinical Neuropsychology.
* Desirable: Full eligibility for entry onto the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.

Experience

* Extensive post-qualification experience of highly specialist assessment and treatment of rehabilitation cases.
* Extensive clinical experience in Neuropsychology Services and service development in a multidisciplinary context.
* Supervision of qualified/assistant/trainee psychologists; clinical research and/or staff consultancy; teaching and support roles.
* Experience with diverse client groups and exercising full clinical responsibility within an MDT; doctorate-level teaching experience.

Skills

* Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work on own initiative with sound judgement.
* Strong organisational skills, time management, prioritisation and planning; ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries.
* Knowledge of national policy and guidance for rehabilitation services.

Personal Qualities

* Confident with peers; organised and able to prioritise demanding workload.
* Change agent with ability to deliver service improvement; dynamic in approach.
* Proven ability to deliver; able to work within a multicultural framework; able to travel independently as required.
