About the role
We're looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our interdisciplinary research and development team. As part of a research grant funded by the UK Space Agency (UKSA), you'll be working on rapid information extraction for environmental remote sensing on board spacecraft.
Your work will involve applying lightweight Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models to multi-spectral satellite imagery to address two Earth observation applications - traffic monitoring and wildfire detection. You'll also be responsible for supporting all aspects of the CNN development, including testing with drone multi-spectral images and real-time deployment on a GPU-based embedded computing platform. Additionally, you'll research and develop appropriate datasets and analysis approaches.
About you
With a PhD or equivalent in an appropriate discipline, you should be able to demonstrate research potential and enthusiasm for the subject area, with a history of contributing to the delivery of high-quality research. Specifically, this should include competency in Convolutional Neural Network development, image processing, and programming in Python. These skills will be complemented by your demonstrated analytical problem-solving capability.
