Job Description
Permanent. Full‑time.
Location: Hybrid.
Reports to: HR Manager.
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000.
Line management responsibilities: No.
About the Role
This hybrid role offers variety and continuous learning opportunities. As a People Partner your focus will be:
* Specialist ER focus – lead on complex ER matters, ensuring fairness and compliance.
* People Partnering – support a small business unit (~30 employees), influencing the full employee lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
ER Responsibilities
* Provide practical, solution‑focused guidance to managers on employee relations matters, including performance management, absence, conduct, grievance and policy interpretation.
* Manage employee relations casework (disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management, etc.), including coordinating meetings, preparing documentation, gathering evidence and ensuring GDPR‑compliant record keeping.
* Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of employment law, applying it effectively and keeping abreast of legal updates.
* Support interpretation and implementation of new legislative changes.
* Work with other People Partners to develop their ER knowledge, confidence and skills.
* Collaborate with the L&D team to develop and deliver meaningful training to upskill managers in ER.
* Co‑create a team of Manager ER experts with the HR Manager.
* Assist the HR Manager with ER‑related project delivery and initiatives supporting employee engagement, organisational change and company culture.
* Provide administrative support for ER processes, including minute‑taking, scheduling and documenting standard procedures.
* Analyse people data and ER trends, using management information and survey insights to drive proactive improvements.
* Undertake CPD activities to maintain competency in employment law.
Key People Partner Responsibilities
* Provide end‑to‑end HR support to a small business unit.
* Assist with first‑line HR queries and HR policy advice.
* Support operational processing of employee lifecycle activities (flexible working, probation reviews, etc.).
* Handle day‑to‑day HR administrative activities and onboarding/off‑boarding tasks.
* Become proficient in PeopleHR HRIS.
* Coordinate induction training.
* Coordinate DBS checks.
* Support the HR Manager with operational tasks/issues.
* Ensure HR policies, procedures and SOPs are accurate, up to date and compliant.
* Support employee engagement activities.
Other Responsibilities
* Maintain an understanding of TQUK internal processes and the wider educational landscape.
* Maintain knowledge of TQUK products and services.
* Improve and streamline processes, integrating outcomes of own work.
* Undertake other duties within skill and competence.
* Maintain regulatory understanding across awarding and EPA provision.
Essential Skills / Experience / Qualifications
* Maths & English GCSE grade 5 or equivalent.
* Proven experience in an Employee Relations role.
* Strong working knowledge of employment law.
* Thrives in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.
* Excellent communication skills with confidence to challenge and advise at all levels.
* Strong analytical skills, translating data into meaningful actions.
* Experience enabling high levels of trust with confidential and sensitive information.
* Excellent IT skills – proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Experience producing reports and statistics for management reporting.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to build strong relationships with managers and colleagues.
* Exceptional attention to detail.
* Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
* Ability to work autonomously.
Desirable Skills / Experience / Qualifications
* Experience of using an HR Information System.
* CIPD Level 5 or HR apprenticeship qualified or working towards.
