Speciality Doctor with research interest - in Paediatrics x1 (10 session contract, with 2 additional programme activity sessions) - 12 months

Variety is the name of the game - looking to develop within Paediatrics but also have a special interest and relevant experience in research you want to explore and improve your portfolio? - here's what's on offer:

* 1 Speciality Doctor role, full time
* General paediatric work with neonatal cover alongside extensive scope to undertake research
* Additional sessions specifically to accommodate special interest development and paid time away from the rota in Bangor University to build appropriate knowledge and skills in research
* A modern, progressive and recently extended paediatric outpatient department, Paediatric Assessment Unit and Emergency Department which will have a dedicated paediatric area
* Based in North West Wales, an area of outstanding natural beauty encompassing Snowdonia National Park and miles of coastline and sandy beaches, a veritable adventure playground
* Located close to larger urban areas in North West England, with easy transport links

Main duties of the job

The department currently has 8 WTE consultants and we run a Service week model. One of the consultants chooses to contribute to the second on call rota. The tier 1 rota consists of GP trainees, FY2 and FY3 doctors, and standalone trust doctors. The second on call rota comprises of non-training permanent staff grade doctors.

Job responsibilities

We are delighted to offer this exciting new post that will enable the appointee to gain invaluable experience in undertaking research. The research component of this role will be based at the North Wales Medical School, Bangor University. We have a range of ongoing research projects under the guidance of Dr Rebecca Payne and Professor Jamie Macdonald at Bangor University. Dr Payne has recently commencedREMEDY project https://www.bangor.ac.uk/north-wales-centre-for-primary-care-research/the-remedy-project and there will be an opportunity to contribute to its paediatric aspects. Two days a week will be spent at the university in research activities such as data collection and analysis and in writing academic papers. There will be opportunity to undertake training in research methods. Your educational supervisor will be Dr Manohar Joishy.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* APLS/EPALS (or equivalent)
* NLS (or equivalent)
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCPCH or Equivalent
* MBBS or medical equivalent

Experience

Essential

* At least 4 years of paediatric experience, not including foundation modules with 6-12 months of neonatal experience.
* 12 months NHS experience
* Must have competencies to work at registrar level.

Desirable

* Experience in a level 2 or 3 neonatal unit at Middle grade/Registrar level. Previous clinical experience of Child Protection cases
* Minimum 24 month NHS experience
* Second on-call UK experience
* Previous experience in undertaking research

Qualities

Essential

* Good communication skills
* Good team worker
* Flexible attitude
* Proficiency in academic English

Other

Essential

* Willingness to expand practice and skills in order to keep up to date with new developments. Evidence of achievement of Level 1 paediatric capabilities at time of application and intended start date, as outlined in the Paediatric RCPCH Progress Curriculum
* Willing to participate in teaching.
* Regular attendance at departmental audit meeting.

Desirable

* Willingness to develop specialty interest
* Evidence of formal teaching training
* Involvement in clinical audit with presentations at departments/hospital audit meetings
