One of our local authority clients in West Sussex is looking for an Licensing Officer to help out with cover the role after some sickness within the team on a 6-month basis. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LICENSING OFFICER To undertake general licensing duties, specialising in one or more area of licensing within a team covering a defined geographical area, as required by the Head of Environmental Health and Licensing To take a technical lead and assist the Head of Environmental Health and Licensing in the day-to-day management of a given specialist function/s of the Licensing Team such as Private Hire Taxis and Hackney Carriages, Alcohol and Gaming licensing To supervise the day-to-day work of the Environmental Health & Licensing Assistants working within the team To participate in projects, campaigns and other duties designed to help promote licensing and general public health issues. To be responsible to the Head of Environmental Health and Licensing for carrying out additional and relief duties, which may arise from time to time. To be available for emergency situations that may arise relating to public health and licensing and to participate in the Environmental Health Standby Scheme. To follow the guidelines and principles of the Council's Environmental Action Programme, Health and Safety documentation, Policies and Codes of Practice. To carry out such other duties that may reasonably be required. SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE LICENSING OFFICER Proven ability to interpret applications against national guidance and judge accordingly Good written and verbal communication skills, networking skills Proven customer service skills, abilities to handle difficult situations with diplomacy and discretion Proven IT experience and database management Physically fit able to work at heights Able to work out of hours, able to drive Proven knowledge of Licensing Legislation and of the licensed trade/s Staff supervision skills This is a communication focused role and a high standard of spoken and written English literacy is required.
