£25-£30 per hour | Flexible timetable | In‑home support
We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and experienced tutor to support a 9‑year‑old learner who is currently unable to access mainstream education due to ongoing medical needs. These medical challenges have resulted in significant gaps in their educational journey and a substantial decline in mental health, with current attendance at The young person has now developed EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance) and is currently working below age‑related expectations in reading, writing, and maths.
About the Role
The successful tutor will provide 1:1 therapeutic and educational support within the family home to help the young person :
1. Re‑build confidence and self-esteem
2. Develop emotional regulation strategies
3. Reduce feelings of overwhelm
4. Begin re-engaging with learning at a pace that feels safe
5. Work towards eventually increasing school attendance when physically and emotionally able
The young person is sensitive to loud noises, has low confidence, and requires a warm, nurturing approach. Consistency, empathy, and creativity in lesson planning are essential.
Key Responsibilities
6. Deliver tailored 1:1 tuition in reading, writing, and maths
7. Provide therapeutic, emotionally supportive interactions
8. Build trust and rapport with the learner and family
9. Create a calm, quiet, and sensory‑considerate learning environment
10. Identify gaps in learning and plan engaging, appropriate sessions
11. Encourage and motivate the pupil to rebuild confidence in their abilities
12. Support gradual steps towards reintegration into education when appropriate

13. Hours: 6 hours per week
14. Rate: £25-£30 per hour
15. Schedule: Flexible, based around tutor and family availability
16. Location: In the family home- DT8
Ideal Tutor
17. Experience supporting children with EBSA, anxiety, or medical‑related non-attendance
18. SEN experience (preferred but not essential if you have the right approach)
19. Calm, patient, emotionally intelligent, and adaptable
20. Able to create safe, relationship‑based learning sessions
21. at least 6 months experience within a UK education setting
22. Has a relevant DBS registerred on the update service ( or willing to apply )
