Overview
Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 fixed term (9 months), full-time role in a clinical diagnostic laboratory. The post involves routine laboratory duties across histology or molecular genetics, with rotation between sections and support to senior staff.
Job responsibilities
* Carry out routine laboratory duties across designated work areas (histology or molecular genetics) in accordance with the discipline rota.
* Use a wide range of highly specialised techniques in histology and molecular biology; ensure accurate and timely processing of patient samples to support patient management and access to treatment.
* Rotate between histology and genetic sections; work independently and as part of the team; provide cover in other laboratory sections when needed.
* Adhere to SOPs and protocols; participate in audits; maintain up-to-date training records.
* Contribute to the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
* Support research activities undertaken by the NAC as required.
Qualifications and experience
* Essential: Degree in a biomedical science or equivalent subject; evidence of continuing personal development.
* Essential: Experience of working with clinical data; track record of successfully working in a team.
* Essential: Previous experience in a diagnostic environment with histopathological or molecular biology techniques; good level of expertise in operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment; experience of project management.
Skills and attributes
* Essential: Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, file management) and willingness to keep skills up to date.
* Essential: Ability to work under pressure and manage a variety of tasks; problem solving and initiative; proactive, well organised, and responsible; precision and excellent attention to detail; ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
