Hays Education is working in partnership with a nurturing and inclusive primary school in North Birmingham to recruit a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a strong focus on supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).This is a rewarding opportunity for a skilled HLTA to make a meaningful impact by providing tailored support to children with diverse learning needs in a caring and collaborative school environment.
Please note: Sponsorship and visa support are not available for this role. Applicants must have recent UK-based school experience and hold relevant HLTA qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver lessons in the absence of the class teacher, with a focus on inclusive learning
* Provide classroom support across EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2
* Lead targeted 1:1 and small group interventions for pupils with SEND
* Support children with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH, Non/Preverbal, behavioural needs etc
* Assist with phonics, literacy, numeracy, and guided reading, adapting materials as needed
* Collaborate with teaching staff and SENCO to support personalised learning plans
* Contribute to behaviour management strategies and promote pupil well-being
* Provide personal care support when required
Candidate Requirements:
* HLTA status or equivalent Level 4/5 qualification
* Proven experience supporting pupils with SEND in UK primary school settings
* Strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices and the National Curriculum
* Confident in delivering lessons independently and adapting to individual needs
* Patient, empathetic, and proactive in supporting children's development
* Experience across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 is preferred.
* Willingness to support pupils with personal care and complex needs
