Role Purpose The Database & Web Content (Web Design & Development) Specialist is responsible for managing and optimising organisational databases, while also designing, developing, and maintaining web platforms. The role combines technical expertise with creativity, ensuring both robust system performance and engaging, user-friendly digital experiences. Key Responsibilities Database Administration Install, configure, and maintain database systems (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL). Implement user access controls, backup and recovery strategies, and performance tuning. Support developers with database integration, queries, and reporting solutions. Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and integrity standards. Web Design & Development Design and develop responsive websites and web applications using modern technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular, or similar). Build and integrate back-end systems, APIs, and databases with web applications. Apply UX/UI best practices to create accessible, visually engaging, and user-friendly experiences. Optimise websites for speed, performance, and cross-browser compatibility. Web Content Management & Optimisation Manage and publish web content through CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Sitecore). Ensure content aligns with brand guidelines, SEO best practices, and accessibility standards (WCAG). Audit, update, and maintain web content for accuracy and consistency. Use analytics tools (Google Analytics, Search Console, etc.) to monitor performance and recommend improvements. Essential Skills & Experience Strong experience in database administration and SQL performance optimisation. Proficiency in web design and front-end development. Hands-on experience with CMS platforms and content workflows. Solid understanding of SEO, accessibility, and usability principles. Ability to bridge technical systems with creative digital solutions. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Desirable Skills Experience with back-end programming (PHP, Python, Node.js, .NET). Knowledge of cloud-hosted databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL). Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Photoshop. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. Version control (Git/GitHub) proficiency.
