Key Responsibilities
* Feature Development & Maintenance: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable web applications using React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
* Architect and optimise serverless back-end services on AWS (e.g. Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, Glue, CloudFormation, CDK).
* Take ownership of full feature delivery, from requirements gathering through to production release and ongoing support.
* Ensure application resilience, security, and performance in live production environments.
Operational Excellence & Code Quality
* Drive high standards in code quality and documentation, contributing to technical architecture and API specifications.
* Lead code reviews, define best practices, and enforce compliance with security standards.
* Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability frameworks to ensure rapid and reliable deployments.
* Identify and address technical debt, proposing solutions for long-term scalability.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
* Work closely with the Head of Engineering to plan sprints, define technical roadmaps, and ensure timely delivery.
* Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Ensure the engineering estate is well-documented and reviewed regularly.
* Champion adoption of new technologies, frameworks, and patterns where they add business value.
Skills & Experience Required
* 8+ years of professional experience in full-stack development with React, TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS.
* Strong expertise in serverless architectures, AWS services, and event-driven design.
* Proven track record of delivering, scaling, and maintaining production-grade systems.
* Deep knowledge of automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability (CloudWatch, X-Ray, Datadog/Prometheus/Grafana).
* Excellent documentation practices for code, APIs, and architecture.
* Expert knowledge of security best practices for cloud-native and serverless applications.
Desirable
* Experience leading technical design reviews or architecture boards.
* Knowledge of cost-optimisation strategies and FinOps practices in AWS environments.
