Main duties of the job

To transport conscious or unconscious patients safely between all acute care areas; to and from any area of the hospital to the anaesthetic room, theatres, or recovery room.

Ensure all areas within the Operating Department are clean and tidy and that adequate stock levels are maintained.

Undertake cleaning and tidying furniture and equipment used in the theatre and associated rooms as necessary, ensuring items that need repair are reported.

Cleaning all theatres, anaesthetic rooms, floors, walls, sluice areas, and any other area that requires cleaning on a daily basis or as required.

Removing clinical waste, linen, and sharp bins within theatres, prepares them for collection or disposal.

Cleaning and checking the theatre patient trolley after use and daily. Ensure they have a filled oxygen cylinder and mask, and so are ready for use. Reporting any problems or breakages.

Keeping changing rooms tidy and changing linen bags as needed, ensure scrub suites are replenished and stored appropriately.

Maintain a stock of medical gas cylinders, returning empty cylinders to the store as agreed locally. To respond to medical gas alarms and change Nitrous Oxide, Oxygen and Medical Air cylinders as and when required. Ensure the store room is tidy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To undertake any other duties that may be requested by your manager and which are commensurate with the grade, in order to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
2. To adhere to the guidelines, policies, and standards of the unit and trust.
3. You will be required to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and to ensure that statutory and departmental safety regulations are adhered to.
4. The post holder will take responsibility for their own learning and personal development; they will attend all statutory and mandatory training and participate in an orientation programme and appraisal review.
5. Attend and participate in team meetings.
