Volunteer community workshop facilitator

Sheffield
British Red Cross
Facilitator
£20,000 - £25,000 a year
Posted: 4 October
Offer description

Community Education delivers free educational workshops to groups of young people and adults across the UK to help increase community resilience. Can you help people in your community develop the skills and confidence to act in an emergency? As a community workshop facilitator volunteer, you will deliver essential first aid skills based on the principles of compassion and empathy. You will show that everyone can help someone in an emergency by taking a few simple steps and making use of everyday items. We love this quote from a recent 'Everyday First Aid' workshop participant: "*The simplicity of just a few messages: do something rather than nothing; I don't need to remember acronyms or a song or a complicated sequence*." You may very well feel inspired to also deliver workshops on other humanitarian topics that align with your interest, experience and values. The full list of workshops that we offer can be found here: Free community educational workshops | British Red Cross Full training and learning resources will be provided, and you will be able to build on your skills and confidence to lead your own workshops upon training completion. Most of our workshops take place during the daytime and volunteering hours may vary week-in-week. We also ask that you can get to and from the workshop venue independently. If we've sparked your interest, please have a look at the role description for more information. We invite you to join us in helping create resilient and connected communities in your local area. We are looking for individuals who: - Be available to volunteer on a regular basis. - Be able to contribute a minimum of 8 hours per month, and having flexibility with their availability would also be advantageous (workshops usually run on weekdays between 9am and 5pm, with occasional opportunities in the evenings or at weekends). - Willing to undertake all the required training for the role. - Willing to travel to workshop venues in your community independently. - Have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive vehicles in the UK. - Be able to commit to volunteering for a minimum of 12 months. *Due to the nature of this role, applicants must undergo an Enhanced without barring (Child Workforce) Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.* **Health and Safety Statement** We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety. We may ask you to complete a simple risk assessment and will also have a conversation with you to discuss and identify any adjustments you may need. **Diversity** Diversity is something we celebrate. We want you to be able to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross and feel that you belong. We want to create an inclusive environment, and promote and spread the power of kindness. As part of creating an inclusive space we have an expenses policy that prioritises volunteers not being out of pocket for expenses linked to your role. If up front costs are difficult, you can speak to your volunteering manager about this to find alternatives. We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us. We want volunteering to be accessible to everyone. If you have any questions before applying, please contact us at

Why we want you: We impart skills and knowledge to help people prepare for crises and deal with them. To support even more people, we require the help of our volunteers who know their local communities. Together, we can help enable positive outcomes for people impacted by adversity. This is a wonderful opportunity to act on our shared values as a representative of the British Red Cross in your local community and play your part in helping build the next generation of humanitarians. The suite of workshops that we facilitate can be found on the link below (please copy and paste the link into your internet browser);

Ideally, you will have a reasonable level of IT literacy, and have access to suitable IT equipment and internet connection. (There is no expectation to deliver both face-to-face and digital workshops. You may choose either or both.)

* Benefits: The opportunity to share your skills and knowledge to help people in your community.

The opportunity to develop your existing skills, whilst gaining new skills and experience.

Training provided with ongoing personal development.

Reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

An opportunity to be part of the world's largest humanitarian organisation and the knowledge that you are making a difference to people's lives.
