Experienced Head and Neck Cancer CNS required to cover 12 months maternity leave within the Head and Neck cancer service at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. This will be 22.5 hours at Band 6, ideally Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The post holder will work in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team to assist and coordinate a smooth pathway of care throughout the head and neck cancer patient journey and act as a resource to patients and their carers from diagnosis, through treatment and rehabilitation. This involves working autonomously, managing a caseload of patients with support from the wider team.
The post holder should be an enthusiastic and conscientious team worker with excellent communication skills, able to use their initiative and respond professionally to queries from patients, relatives, and staff at all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical, social, and psychological support to patients using excellent communication skills, education, and health promotion to enable independence and health.
2. Offer specialist advice, supervision, and support to a defined caseload and peers.
3. Organise, prioritise, and evaluate workload based on referral and discharge criteria in line with operational protocols.
4. Contribute to the management of patients with head and neck cancers and support their carers.
5. Maintain effective working relationships within the multidisciplinary team, advocating for patients treated centrally in Leeds.
6. Maintain accurate patient records within agreed databases and electronic systems.
7. Support the Band 7 CNSs and multidisciplinary team in leading aspects of the service.
8. Promote health education and health promotion programs relevant to the service.
9. Act as a resource for clinical staff on wards/departments.
10. Support department management through reports and information provision.
11. Work within national policy frameworks and local guidance.
Experience in emotional and psychosocial support, continuing professional development, teaching, education, and audit is essential.
