Job Title: Principal Engineer – Product Safety
Location: Scotstoun (Broad Oak, Portsmouth, Frimley, and Filton are also alternatives). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Up to £70,000 commensurate with skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
1. Planning, execution, and reporting of product safety activities
2. Process facilitation and specialist process guidance for HazID, analysis, and risk management
3. Defining the safety argument and articulation of the safety case
4. Management of the hazard log, information set, and assurance evidence
5. Specific analysis in support of the risk assessment
6. Taking responsibility for product safety assessment against major subsystems or key complex technologies
Your Skills and Experiences
Essential:
* Practitioner knowledge and hands-on experience of the HazID processes, e.g., Functional Failure Analysis, hazard assessment, and risk management
* Experience leading a technical team
* Hands-on experience creating a safety argument for a complex product
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at various levels, alongside presentation and facilitation skills
* Degree qualification or equivalent experience, likely in technology, engineering, science, or IT-related discipline
* Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional registration with a relevant institution
Desirable:
* Background within a Naval/Maritime environment or similar highly regulated industry

The Product Safety Team:
The team comprises 40 practitioners across various programmes. You may work on large complex projects or smaller ones, with accountability for safety resting with the Technical Authority. Your role supports decision-making, ensuring risks are systematically identified and managed within the Product Safety Management framework, influencing the integrity of the final product.
