The Faculty of Nursing Education and Research is offering a maternity cover opportunity to support teaching on Paediatric Critical Care courses (Level 1 & 2 High Dependency and Level 3 Intermediate/Advanced).You’ll help plan, prepare, and deliver teaching, moderate assessments, and provide learner support. Full mentorship is available, and flexibility is offered. This role can be full-time or split between courses (minimum 0.4 WTE).Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing and delivering evidence-based teaching
* Supporting assessments and maintaining PCCS standards
* Working collaboratively with the Faculty team
* Providing pastoral and educational support

Main duties of the job
· To work in as a member of the Faculty of Nursing Education and Research within the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) and wider region, ensuring quality and high standards of Critical Care are maintained through the coordination and educational development of Registered Nurses who provide this level of care to children
In conjunction with the Faculty of Nursing Education and Research (FNER), plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education and training to ensure an appropriate level is achieved and to promote and maintain standards of care in accordance with the latest evidence, Unit and Trust policies
In conjunction with the PCC L1&2 and PCC L3 Course Leads, be responsible for planning, delivery and quality assurance of these courses, ensuring that the high standards which are set by the Paediatric Critical Care Society quality group (EQA) are met.
Co-ordinate with other senior nursing posts strategic views on educational planning for addressing service need development and new nursing roles

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Main Duties and Responsibilities
Provide specialist education and training for nurses working with critically ill children across designated critical environments and specialities within BRHC, regionally and nationally
· Support nurses undertaking the Critical Care courses to achieve the clinical component of their course if appropriate
· Maintain own competence and knowledge and ensure quality of care is maintained by utilising evidence based practice
· Undertake clinical practice hours within PICU and other Critical Care areas across BRHC, up to 30 hours per month
· Facilitate effective learning in BRHC by acting as a resource and role model
· Develop deliver and evaluate training programmes that will enable trained staff to acquire “extended” clinical skills in line with NMC Code of Professional Conduct
· Develop skills in simulation to allow competence in leading a multi-disciplinary team sim when appropriate
· Assist staff to identify personal and professional development needs allowing them to develop their career
· Attend and present at relevant study days/courses, national and international conference
· Contribute to the development of evidence based guidelines for use in clinical practice
· Work collaboratively with the Paediatric Critical Care team to promote the use of research and evidence based practice
· Assist staff in the identification, application and dissemination of evidence and research findings relevant to paediatric critical care nursing
· Attend and contribute to hospital wide meetings and forums as required
· Attend and contribute to the relevant Clinical Governance group meetings working with clinical teams to act on findings
· Attend and contribute to the PCC EQA group and SWODN
· Promote a learning environment across BRHC
Education & Training
· To contribute to the smooth running PCCS accredited courses ensuring it meets the standards set by PCCS educator group
· With guidance from the course lead, deliver classroom based sessions to students attending the Critical Care courses
· As a specialist in paediatric critical care; contribute to other courses of education provided by the FNER, to both BRHC and external learners
· Working with the course lead, ensue annual reports and students results go to the relevant PCCS quality group EQA) in a timely manner
· To be an active members of PCCS and PCCS nurse educator group attending meetings and contributing to forums
· Develop own skills as an educator utilising a variety of teaching and learning methods
· Attend and contribute Faculty hosted events as appropriate, for example the critical care networking days
· Act as a resource for other educators within BRHC
· Contribute to the development of the Faculty by inputting into issues relating to the work of the Faculty team
· Working with the Faculty and PIC education teams, develop strategies that will assist in the integration of learning both in the clinical and education setting

* Lead and support the Faculty Team in the auditing, service evaluation and research of educational programmes

· Maintain and update own clinical, educational and professional knowledge base.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
* Comprehensive post registration experience in Paediatric Critical Care
* Proven educational clinical and organisational experience
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of Key targets for the Division and Trust
* Knowledge of Educational theory and an understanding of how learning takes place
* Knowledge of the wider picture of paediatric Critical care across the UK
* Knowledge of current issues within nurse education and the ability to relate these to education within BRHC

* Experience in teaching both in clinical practice and small groups
