We are looking for a Locum Senior Social Worker to cover an assignment with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), at Digby DCMH, in Ashby, Lincolnshire.
Work pattern: Monday - Friday (20 hours per week)
The successful applicant will deliver an exceptional standard of care to the MoD service personnel and their families.
Pay Rate:
PAYE – £27.95 per hour
Umbrella - £32.14 per hour
Job Description:
* To provide effective Mental Health Social Work (MHSW) in support of a designated Department of Community Mental Health, Defence Mental Health Social Work Service and the wider Defence Mental Health Services
* Contribute to the development of service delivery, suggesting developmental initiatives in support of observations.
* Manage patient caseloads according to DCMH allocation processes and practices as directed by the clinical team lead and the MHSW Regional Lead.
* Support the management of the DCMH by providing direct delivery advice for MHSW to the DCMH manager (single post locations) or the MHSW Regional Lead (dual post locations). - Provide SME knowledge and guidance for Health & Social Care and Safeguarding Lead for the mental health team.
* Undertake such additional clinical/management tasks as may be appropriate to the grade and the role agreed in discussion with their line manager / HoS.
Clinical Delivery and Caseload Management:
* Practice as lead MHSW practitioner for social work interventions, including strength based and therapeutic interventions, in support of the holistic management of mental health patients within the DCMH.
* Provide social care management for Mental Health (MH) patients within the DCMH and the designated civilian In-patient Service Provider (ISP) or National Health Service Mental Health facilities, conforming and adhering to the standards set by Social Work England (SWE), Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC), Social Care Wales (SCW) or Scottish Social Services Council, Defence Medical Services (DMS) and Defence Primary Health Care Service (DPHC).
* Provide reports for and attend Mental Health Tribunals, as directed by Tribunal chair.
* Enable the effective social care transfer of service leavers, discharged for reasons of mental health illness (S8 Medical Discharge), to identified and appropriate services.
* In this role the mental health social worker will often be the identified practitioner within the DCMH advising and coordinating activity (of internal and external agencies) that provide support to service personnel and veterans.
* Supporting / enabling a seamless transfer along the mental health care pathways including recovery.
* Practice as lead clinician for the social work assessments of patients, their home circumstances and relationships, providing reports in order to support the patient’s care management plan, including SME for safeguarding – adults and children Level 3 .
* Maintain accurate clinical records as per DPHC policy and professional requirements.
* Undertake such additional clinical tasks as may be appropriate to the grade and the role agreed in discussion with their line manager.

* Some travel and occasional overnight stays will be required in this role.
* A full UK driving license is essential
* Ability and willingness to deputise for line manager when appropriate and requested.
Essential Requirements/ Qualifications/ Experience:
* Must be an appropriately qualified and experienced Mental Health Social Work professional. Be registered with the SWE, SSSC, CCW or NISCC
* Degree in Social Work or equivalent Diploma in Social Work (DipSW) Certificate of qualification in Social Work (CQSW)
* An understanding and working knowledge of all social care legislation – Mental health Act (MHA) (83), Mental Capacity Act (MCA) (05) inc deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLs)(LPS), Care Act 14, ECHR (98), Adult and Children safeguarding Policies.
* Must be an experienced Mental Health Social Worker with post qualifying experience of working in a mental health setting.
* Experience of working with clients with a range of complex mental health difficulties.
* A thorough understanding and working knowledge of mental disorders and treatment options including the recovery model.
* Caseload management experience in a multi professional setting A thorough working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (83) and subsequent amendments.
* An understanding and working knowledge of all relevant legislation – MCA (05), including DOLs / LPSy, Care Act 14, ECHR (98) and Safeguarding. Safeguarding Level 3 and willing to train as level 4 as required / or that of the devolved Nations.
* Must hold a full driving licence.
* Must be in date and able to provide certification for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Safeguarding Adults up to and including Level 3 training.
