Job title: Carer Support Worker
Overview
Carers Trust Mid Yorkshire provides support to carers and people with care needs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Care Worker will work in the local community, within clients' homes and during community visits. The working pattern will be agreed between the care worker and a senior member of staff. An induction training programme will be provided at the start of employment, and staff will not work unsupervised until induction is successfully completed.
Responsibilities
* To provide support and assistance to carers and people with care needs, including personal care, social care, and emotional support. Respect confidentiality in line with data protection regulations and uphold equality, diversity and inclusion.
* To assist with personal hygiene (e.g., bathing/showering, toilet, skin/hair care including shaving).
* To assist with dressing/undressing and offer choice of clothes and personal appearance.
* To support with medication.
* To assist with mobility, including the use of wheelchairs and hoists.
* To prepare meals and drinks and assist with eating/drinking.
* To assist with a therapeutic programme designed by a medical professional.
* To provide emotional support, companionship and a safe environment for those in need of supervision and help.
* To carry out basic first aid and summon emergency services when required.
* To report concerns about abuse or welfare/safety of any adult or child encountered at work to a line manager or nominated person.
* To support the person with care needs with activities outside their home (e.g., community activities, shopping, medical appointments).
* To support the person with care needs in organised group activities.
* To assist with light household duties (washing up, vacuuming, laundry as appropriate).
* To support the care of pets where applicable.
Health and safety
* Implement, operate and maintain safe systems of work in accordance with Carers Trust Mid Yorkshire policies, procedures, guidance, training and risk assessments.
* Report any situations or issues related to risks, incidents (including near misses) and/or accidents to your manager promptly, to protect health and safety of yourself and others.
General
* Maintain accurate records as directed, including recording activities, medication, and relevant information within the care plan or via a mobile app.
* Participate in regular one-to-ones, appraisals and team meetings.
* Self-manage training compliance by completing online training and attending practical sessions to keep mandatory training up to date.
* Work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and providing a flexible service.
* Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and children.
* Work within the philosophy and policies of Carers Trust Mid Yorkshire.
* Comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Carers Trust Mid Yorkshire policy, paying particular attention to reporting dangerous situations.
* Respect the personal choices and lifestyles of colleagues, carers, and people with care needs, ensuring Equal Opportunity principles are applied at all times.
* Comply with the Code of Conduct.
* Undertake other duties appropriate to the post as set out in the care plan.
* Full UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle is essential to the role.
