1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant About the role Are you an enthusiastic and compassionate HLTA with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to work part-time with a bright and sensitive Year 2 pupil in a welcoming primary school in Barnet. This is a unique opportunity to support a student with ADHD, overwhelming anxiety, and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), who is currently undergoing a slow reintegration into school. Initially attending for just 40 minutes per day, the aim is to gradually increase this to 2.5 days a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and one flexible afternoon. The school is looking for someone to prioritise building a trusting, positive relationship, with social and emotional connection taking precedence over academic demands. The student * Is academically advanced, performing at Year 5 level in maths * Enjoys physical activity, especially dodgeball and Lego * Communicates well verbally but is reluctant to engage in written work * Responds best to non-directive, calm, and empathetic support You must be/have * HLTA qualified (or a confident graduate with strong SEN experience) * A patient, adaptable, and nurturing approach * Understanding of demand avoidance and anxiety-related behaviours * Able to motivate through play, creativity, and movement * Comfortable with slow, relationship-focused transitions * Skilled in creating a calm, predictable and emotionally secure environment * A genuine belief in putting the child first, with work coming later If you're looking for a meaningful part-time role where your work truly changes lives, we’d love to hear from you.
