The role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll contribute to the design, integration, and delivery of mechanical systems across a range of naval shipbuilding and support programs. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you’ll support system design activities, develop technical documentation, and help resolve engineering challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
This is an exciting opportunity to build expertise across multiple mechanical domains—such as auxiliary systems, power and propulsion, HVAC, outfit, and transversal systems—while progressing towards Chartered Engineer status. Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Assist in design reviews and assurance activities, contributing to hazard assessments and compliance checks.
2. Provide engineering support to production and commissioning, helping resolve installation queries and non-conformances.
3. Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders, supporting technical discussions and ensuring alignment with specifications.
4. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including test and commissioning procedures.
5. Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, including Defence Standards and classification society rules.
This role is full time and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer
6. Extensive experience in marine or mechanical engineering projects.
7. Exposure to mechanical systems across ship platforms, including design, integration, and performance evaluation.
8. Familiarity with engineering tools such as CAD, systems modelling, and analysis software.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer
9. Degree in Marine, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
10. Working towards Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution (e.g., RINA, IMechE, IMarEst, IET).
