The position is a full‑time, substantive Consultant role based at York and Scarborough Hospitals, with the possibility of part‑time arrangements.
Job Responsibilities
The Consultant will:
* Deliver independent clinical care in the clinic and theatre across the full spectrum of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
* Participate in the on‑call rota for North Yorkshire on a 1:6 basis (7‑day pattern with Friday morning handover).
* Contribute to the development of skin, head and neck, and orthognathic practice areas.
* Support teaching of medical students from Hull York Medical School and postgraduate trainees.
* Engage in research and audit activities within the department.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and support junior staff, including the training of Surgical Care Practitioners.
Person Specification
Qualification
Essential
* Medical qualification registered with the GMC.
* Licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
* Entry on the relevant GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR.
Desirable
* MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research.
* Fellowship in a subspecialty.
* Substantive NHS experience.
Clinical Practice / Competence
Essential
* Demonstrated clinical experience and skill in all areas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Mentoring and Teaching
Essential
* Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
Desirable
* Experience supervising StRs/specialist trainees.
Teamwork
Essential
* Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team.
