We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee and optimise daily operations within our business. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant service delivery, managing drivers and operational staff, coordinating fleet availability, and maintaining high customer satisfaction while meeting financial and regulatory targets.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee day-to-day coach operations, ensuring services run safely, punctually, and efficiently
* Full responsibility for driver scheduling, route planning, and resource allocation to meet operational demands
* Ensure compliance with transport regulations, licensing, tachograph rules, and health & safety standards - full understanding of UK Domestic Hours and EU Drivers hours and the Working Time Regulations, and DVSA Earned Recognition standard
* Supervise, train, and support drivers and operational staff, including performance management and disciplinary processes
* Coordinate with Maintenance teams to ensure fleet availability, roadworthiness, and defect reporting
* Coordinate with Sales teams to ensure fleet availability and optimum vehicle and driver planning
* Monitor operational KPIs, including vehicle utilisation, cost control, and fuel usage
* Handle incident management, breakdown response (with support from Maintenance), and customer service escalations
* Liaise with clients, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and internal departments
* Prepare operational reports, forecasts, and budgets; identify opportunities for process improvement
* Implement company policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives
* Strong leadership and people-management skills
* Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
* In-depth knowledge of coach or passenger transport operations
* Understanding of transport legislation, safety, and compliance requirements
* Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
* Proficient in Distinctive Systems applications (Coach Manager, Vehicle Maintenance System (VMS)) and Microsoft Office (strong Excel skills)
Qualifications & Experience:
* Proven experience (3+ years) in an operations management role within the coach/ bus transport industry
* International Transport Manager CPC for passenger transport qualification is essential
* Knowledge of fleet management and driver compliance systems
* Full driving license; PCV license essential
