Vacancy Information Principal Teacher Salary Scale Point 1 (£57,360 per annum) Temporary for 1 year. Days of work: Monday - Friday Start date anticipated April/May 2026. Ormiston Primary School is located in the heart of Ormiston in East Lothian. The school opened in 1888 and the original building has 8 classrooms, our nursery, a library, a sfl room and our gym hall. There are four further classrooms in the newer part of the building. Our dining room is in a separate building. We have 11 classes from P1-P7 and our nursery. The senior leadership team consists of our Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher and Principal Teacher. We are well supported by our parents, carers and community members, The Principal Teacher currently teaches P6/7 and has responsibility for Health and Wellbeing. It is anticipated the post will start around April/May 2026. Internal candidates wishing to apply for the post on a secondment basis must seek permission from their current line manager. Job Details Subject to the policies of the school and the Council, the duties of Principal Teachers are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct. These should give reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to: Curricular development and quality assurance. Contribute to the development of school policy in relation to the behaviour management of pupils. The management and guidance of colleagues. Review the CPD needs, career development and performance of colleagues. Provision of advice, support and guidance to colleagues. Responsible for the leadership, good management and strategic direction of pastoral care within the school. Assist in the management, deployment and development of pastoral care staff. Implement whole school policies dealing with guidance issues, pastoral care, assessment and pupil welfare. Working in partnership with colleagues, parents and other specialist agencies as appropriate. Working alongside class teachers to share best practice and take forward the Improvement Plan priorities. Participate in the overall administration of the school. In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted.
