As we open our newchildrens wing and with the imminent opening of our new teenager and youngadult facility, we are looking to add to expand our staff team. This is an amazing opportunity forenthusiastic and caring individuals to come and join our dedicatedmulti-disciplinary team in an unrivalled setting.

We provide 1:1,holistic, family centred care, meaning this role is suitable for those who havea genuine interest in making a difference through the care they provide.


Main duties of the job

To provide holistic 1 to 1 care to children andyoung people, including activities such as play and recreation as well asattending to the child or young persons physical and emotional needs.

To pro-actively keep up to date with clinicalcompetencies and e-learning

Support the administration of medication.

To carry out personal care as required

Support children and young people to accesscommunity, social and leisure activities.


About us

Martin House provides free specialistpalliative care to babies, children and young people with complex andlife-shortening conditions. Families from across West, North and East Yorkshirehave access to our care 24/7, 365 days a year, including specialist doctors.Every year we care for more than 550 families, at the hospice, in hospital andin families own homes, as well as supporting around 200 bereaved familymembers.

MartinHouse is currently undergoing an extensive £21.9 million pound build andrenovation project, which will transform the current building. Our vision is to create a purpose-built spacewith new and improved facilities. It will ensure that whether a family isvisiting for respite or end-of-life care, we can keep providing tailored,specialist care, future proofing the hospice and helping families acrossYorkshire for many more years to come.


Job responsibilities

Overall Purpose of Role:

To provide specialist paediatric and adultpalliative care, in partnership with a multidisciplinary team, both within MartinHouse Hospice and in the community,

Tasks and duties:

To provide holistic 1 to 1 care to children andyoung people, including activities such as play and recreation as well asattending to the child or young persons physical and emotional needs.

To pro-actively keep up to date with clinicalcompetencies and e-learning

Support the administration of medication.

To carry out personal care as required

Support children and young people to accesscommunity, social and leisure activities.

Actively participate in assigned governancegroup.

To work flexibly alongside children, youngpeople and families respecting the child or young persons routine of care.

To ensure that care routines and practice aredocumented accurately on the relevant system and clearly communicated.

Undertake regular contact calls with assignedfamilies to meet their specific needs.

To plan and deliver Hospice at home when andwhere required.

To participate in general household activities whenrequired, to support the running of the Hospice

Tosupport children and young people in the Hydrotherapy pool as required

To ensure accurate and contemporaneous recordadhering to standards of confidentiality at all times.

To hold each member of the multi-disciplinary teamin positive regard and to foster a culture of respect and consideration.

Toundertake moving and handling techniques, including the use of hoists, pushingwheelchairs and clamping within vehicles

To work closely with the Care Team Leader oneach shift and inform them of any issues that need resolving.

Health & safety:

To be aware of the safety needs of thechildren, young people siblings, parents, and colleagues and adopt apreventative safety approach to all times.

To report all accidents incidents anduntoward incidents as appropriate

To be aware of your health and safetyresponsibilities as an employee and adhere to these.

To adopt a positive and reflectiveapproach to personal and professional development.

To undertake core competencies forclinical skills and specific training and to remain updated.

To work in conjunction with the educationteam to develop your practice

Support the wider team to ensure high standards of care are delivered.

Person Specification


Experience

* Excellent verbal and organisational skills
* Knowledge of current legislation relating to children and young people including best practice in safeguarding children.
* Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
* Proficiency in using electronic health record systems for documentation purpose
* Ability to document clear and concise details of care routines and practice.
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Evidenced ability to adopt a proactive approach to reporting and resolving health and safety issues.
* Demonstrable commitment to maintaining own professional development.
* Proficiency with a range of IT systems
* An understanding of care practice within a palliative care service

* Other essential requirements
* In order to carry out Hospice@Home, access to a car for business use and ability to drive Martin house Pool Cars is essential.
* As we work with children and adults at risk this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with child and adult barring
* Willing to undergo immunisation checks and immunisations where applicable
* Ability to provide evidence of right to work in the UK


Qualifications

* Experience of working in a care setting, preferably with children and young adults
* Good level of education including GCSEs (grade 4 or above) including English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
* Experience of working in a palliative care setting
* Experience of caring for children with special educational needs.

£26,931.13 to £32,185.20 a yearStarting salaries are usually set at the bottom of a scale.
