Times have never been so busy! Our Outpatients department at the Royal South Hants Hospital, Southampton, treats around 1,500 patients per month, with growth expected.
We have permanent Healthcare Assistant opportunities in our active Outpatients team. You will work with a focused, friendly, professional and supportive group.

The Healthcare Assistants will be hands-on, supporting Doctors, registered Nurses and other professional staff with the overall responsibility for all patients within the outpatient department.
These are permanent positions, working a 4-day week
Shift patterns will be from Monday to Saturday
3 days from 08:00 to 18:00
1 day from 08:00 to 17:30
Main duties
As Healthcare Assistants you'll ensure patients receive a high standard of care by carrying out routine patient monitoring and care duties relevant to each patient. You will investigate the patient pathway, update patient records accurately via the internal system, and ensure the pathway is followed and documented. You will prepare patients for treatments or surgery and conduct necessary checks prior to treatment or surgery. You may perform phlebotomy when required and work with Lab Technicians to provide cross-referencing details and background information on patients and blood samples. Some administration tasks may include gathering patient information for admissions, discharges or follow-up calls, photocopying and transporting paperwork between departments. You will be mindful of health, safety and hygiene, keeping the department clean and addressing hazards promptly to the Department Manager.
About us
The appointed Healthcare Assistant will have hospital/clinical experience and may have completed the NVQ levels 1 & 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent. You will have experience as a phlebotomist, taking blood samples and working with the laboratory to assess samples. You will be familiar with ECGs and will work closely with Doctors to support patients in your care. You will be computer literate and capable of updating records and databases, with the ability to learn new systems quickly. You will communicate effectively at all levels, including with other departments, families and carers, face to face, by email or by phone.
