Please note – the majority of our placements for volunteering are in Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland at this time.
Role Title: Volunteer Youth Support Worker
About The Junction:

Volunteering Hours:
Supporting a minimum of one session/project per week for a minimum of 6 months
· Project sessions are typically two hours long scheduled early evenings, weekend and school holiday provision available.
· Volunteers can leave at any time however; we want your involvement in our services to be a positive experience for yourself and the young people we support and this requires consistency to develop positive trusted adult relationships with young people. Volunteers and the young people we support will benefit most from an experience that lasts for 6 months or longer, so please consider this before making an application.
Role Purpose:
· To support service delivery through structured group work sessions to enable access
to services and other opportunities.
· To support positive outcomes for children and young people.
Support and key contacts:
Each volunteer will be assigned a mentor and receive further support from Service and Project Coordinators. You will be given regular support and supervision to aid you in your
role, develop your understanding of the work and talk through any issues you may come across.
Volunteering activities:
· Supporting the delivery of group work activities
· Developing activities that further young people's personal and social development through informal education.
· Contributing to session planning and evaluations and communicating the needs of young people.
· Volunteering as part of a motivated team of staff to provide group activities to service users.
· Other activities relevant to the role as identified by the volunteer and mentor through the Volunteer Development Plan.
Placement options:
Placement options will be discussed with you in terms of timings and locations available for volunteering opportunities upon application. We will be as flexible as possible in accommodating your needs in relation to any reasonable adjustments you may need to make volunteering possible – but please note the majority of these opportunities involve evening and weekend working.

· A clear induction process and training programme that aims to equip you with the skills, confidence and knowledge to succeed in your voluntary role and the area you volunteer in.
· Opportunity to complete a minimum level one training course with the opportunity to progress to JNC recognised qualifications.
· Clear boundaries around your role and not replacing paid staff members within your role, ensuring you receive the support that you need and are not given responsibilities of an employed position.
· Consultation and involvement within Junction activities and about your role at least annually.
· Clearly defined support and supervision to enable you to develop within your role.
· The reimbursement of reasonable expenses associated with your voluntary role.
· A safe working environment including insurance coverage for your work at The Junction Foundation.
Our Expectations of volunteers:
The support and successful involvement of volunteers within our activities has benefits to the organisation in being able to better support delivery of our service to young people,
however, to support successful volunteering this also has a significant financial and resource investment from us therefore our expectations of volunteers are:
· It is clear from the outset the time period that volunteers can commit to at the start of a volunteering opportunity and this is honoured unless extenuating circumstances occur.
· You meet agreed expectations of the role.
· If your planned volunteering changes, to let us know in advance of the session starting.
· Attend support, supervision and training required for the role.
· That volunteer expense claims should be made promptly.
· All volunteers familiarise themselves, and adhere to, our key policies around Volunteering, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Information Security
Please Note: as this volunteering opportunity involve working with children and young people, it is subject to necessary checks to ensure the children and young people we support are safe from harm. This will include an enhanced DBS and at least two references.
