The Service & Team: The Statutory SEN Service sits within the Inclusion and SEND Service, which provides a wide range of support to families in Cornwall.


Job Description

The Statutory SEN Service coordinates key processes for children and young people with complex special educational needs, including education, health and care (EHC) needs assessments, and reviewing the progress of children and young people with EHC plans. There are over 5,000 children and young people aged 0–25 in Cornwall who have EHC plans.


The Role

SEND EHCP Officers undertake extensive liaison with families and with education, social care, and health professionals. The role involves a mix of home-based work, time in an office, and meetings in person and via remote links with families, schools, and colleges. The purpose is to ensure that children and young people with the most complex needs are well supported to achieve the best possible life outcomes through effective assessment of their needs and active administration of their EHC plans. The role is varied and busy; full training is provided for new staff. This is a public/customer-facing role with the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers. The position is subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.


Working Pattern

Full-time positions available. This is a hybrid role involving a combination of working at New County Hall in Truro and, if you choose, some home working. Working hours are 8:45–17:15, Monday to Friday.
