This role is based on one of the 20 Major Investigation Teams (MIT) in London. The purpose of a MIT is to investigate homicides and as required, serious crime and high-risk missing person investigations.

The role holder will conduct a range of investigative tasks, handle evidence and manage information under the direction of the SIO, IO or supervisor. The duties will be in line with current standards and to ensure cases are progressed effectively through the criminal justice system.

This is an exciting role. You will work with police staff investigators (at PIP level 2) and Detective Constables. MITs are led by a DCI supported by Detective Inspectors and Detective Sergeants. The role of Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) will be performed by the DCI or DI.

You and your team will be based at one of the four SC hubs. Since your team can investigate incidents that have occurred across London, you will expected to be able to travel anywhere in London.

This position is an exciting, operational role tackling serious criminality. Its nature is unpredictable but highly rewarding. We need staff who are able to flex their working arrangements to meet some of the most complex operational demands in the Met. This does mean that, on occasions, we may ask to change your rostered shift or work overtime to meet demands. Successful candidates will be expected to be flexible in their approach to meet these demands. We will discuss this with you during the recruitment phase.

Key Responsibilities:

* Conduct investigative tasks such as interviewing witness and suspects, taking statements, making enquiries and retrieving & managing CCTV and other exhibits
* Retrieve and process digital, forensic and documentary evidence in line with current standards to ensure evidence remains admissible
* Collect and gather material, intelligence and evidence from a range of sources. Record and retain it in a format that is evidentially admissible to support the investigative process
* Collaborate with internal and external partners to share relevant information
* Maintain accurate records and update police systems
* Apply investigative standards aligned with the Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) Level 1 framework
* Conduct any activities as required by the SIO or other supervisor, which is consistent with the Policing Professional Profile for PIP1 investigators from the College of Policing.

Our Employee Commitments

Specialist Crime aims to create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere and culture and an environment where all our people feel a strong sense of belonging and are able to reach their full potential.

Applications for job share and part time will be considered, although the full range of duties (early & late shifts and weekend working) will be required.
