Band 6 Macmillan Dietitian

The closing date is 06 May 2026

Are you an experienced Band 5 or an established Band 6 Dietitian looking to gain experience within cancer care? At University Hospitals Birmingham (Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull sites) we are looking for a motivated, flexible and enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly team. This is a full‑time fixed‑term post, although part‑time hours and flexible working will be considered.

We are a supportive team of oncology dietitians and will help a new post holder to transition into the role. We provide inpatient and outpatient dietetic support to a range of tumour sites, including Upper GI, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Haematology, HPB, Lung and Lower GI.

We are committed to supporting the ongoing personal and professional development of our staff and offer excellent training and development opportunities. The clinical caseload varies from acute inpatients to MDT outpatient clinics or dietitian‑from‑home clinics. The service works closely with multidisciplinary colleagues within MDTs and joint therapy clinic reviews. The successful applicant will receive training from an experienced multidisciplinary team in the care of the Macmillan patients and will be exposed to a wide range of cancer and palliative conditions with diverse therapeutic interventions.

Main duties of the job

Post‑registration experience in an acute NHS hospital setting is required so you can support the team as a source of dietetic clinical knowledge and experience. The successful candidate should have experience working as part of the MDT and have clinical skills across various areas to clinically reason complex scenarios and formulate appropriate treatment plans. The post holder will provide support for the oncology service, seeing patients in MDT clinics, on inpatient wards, in outpatient clinics or via telephone clinics.

Part of the role includes supervising Band 5s and students and demonstrating the application of these skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to overcome barriers within the MDT or with the patient. IT skills are required as all notes are completed with electronic records.

As service development is a key part of the role, we seek an innovative and self‑motivated dietitian. In return, we provide support and many exciting opportunities for personal development, quality improvement and research projects, driving forward change and developing new pathways within our Macmillan Dietetic service.
