Overview

Volunteer Brand & Graphic Design Lead | Criminal Justice Hub

Shape the brand for Conviction and our Criminal Justice Hub. A 4-6 month volunteer role with full creative ownership to define identity, create guidelines and assets. Ideal for 5+ years’ designers committed to social justice.

What difference will you make?

Your work will clarify who we are and what we do, helping people find the right support quickly. Reduce stigma by presenting clear, respectful and trauma‑informed communications. Equip volunteers with ready‑to‑use templates so they can produce on‑brand materials in minutes, not days. Strengthen trust with service users, families, partners and funders through consistent, accessible design. Increase reach and engagement across web and social channels with coherent visuals and messaging. Save time and costs by establishing governance, asset libraries and licensing that prevent rework. Unite Conviction and the Criminal Justice Hub under a connected brand architecture that makes sense to the public. Leave a lasting foundation a maintainable brand playbook that future volunteers and staff can use with confidence. The result: a credible, human brand that amplifies lived experience and makes our services easier to access.

What are we looking for?

* 5+ years’ professional brand/graphic design experience and a portfolio of end‑to‑end identity projects.
* Ability to lead discovery, translate strategy into visual systems and document them in clear brand guidelines.
* Strong craft across typography, colour, layout, iconography/illustration and digital + print production.
* Proficiency with Canva and/or Adobe CC (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop); confident in creating reusable templates.
* Experience designing accessible materials (e.g., WCAG 2.2 AA contrast, legible type, alt text guidance).
* Excellent communication, stakeholder facilitation and the ability to coach non‑designers.
* Organised, reliable and able to plan a phased delivery over 4–6 months.
* Nice‑to‑haves: Naming and messaging frameworks; tone‑of‑voice and copyediting; motion/animation or simple video/social formats; experience with charities, grassroots groups or justice‑focused organisations; values and qualities such as positivity, collaboration, empathy and commitment to social justice.
* Comfortable working with limited budgets and making pragmatic, high‑impact choices.

What will you be doing?

* Lead discovery and brand strategy, conduct light research and stakeholder sessions to refine positioning, tone and messaging.
* Design the visual identity: logo suite, colour palette, typography, iconography/illustration and photography direction.
* Produce practical brand guidelines with accessible rules, examples and templates so any volunteer can create on‑brand materials quickly.
* Create core assets and templates: business cards, letterheads, social media graphics, email and slide/report templates, and website look‑and‑feel.
* Set up an asset library, handover file structure, usage guardrails, licensing notes and a simple how‑to kit.
* Coach the team with a short onboarding session to embed the brand.

Who you are

* An experienced designer (5+ years) with a positive, collaborative outlook and a commitment to social justice.
* Empathise with people affected by the criminal justice system and translate complex issues into clear, human design.
* We warmly welcome applicants with lived experience—whether as a service user, family member or professional.

Timeframe and support: 4-6 months, flexible and remote‑first. You’ll partner with our leadership for decisions and have space to set the creative direction and delivery plan.
