Project Controls Director - Large Projects

Role Overview: The Project Controls Director oversees large Priority Projects within the Global Capital Projects function, ensuring the right capabilities, capacity, and ways of working within project controls. This role involves managing project controls improvements, guiding independent assurances, and collaborating closely with senior leadership. The position reports to the Head of Project Controls & Risk and interacts daily with the VP of GCP.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Implement GCP PMF practices, tools, templates, and ways of working for project estimation, benchmarking, risk management, contract administration, and reporting.
2. Provide functional leadership to Project Controls Managers/Directors on priority projects.
3. Support and standardize project controls practices across GCP.
4. Conduct project reviews and health checks to ensure effective controls and early issue detection.
5. Apply Quantified Risk Analysis (QRA) using Monte Carlo simulations for cost and schedule risk management.
6. Benchmark project performance and establish value metrics.
7. Coach staff involved in project controls across GCP.
8. Enhance the use of planning and control systems like SAP, Oracle P6, Sypro, and others.
9. Engage with global project control service providers to adopt best practices.
10. Support community of practice and training in project controls.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
* Extensive experience in delivering planning and project controls on high-profile projects across multiple regions.
* BSc/BEng degree or Chartered Engineer status.
* Deep knowledge of stage gate models, planning, cost, commercial, and contract management.
* Strong stakeholder management and influence skills.
* Experience in project execution, scheduling, cost management, and risk reduction.
Preferred:
* MSc, PhD, or professional qualifications in relevant disciplines.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
* Knowledge of GSK project processes, standards, and quality systems.
