Role Summary
We are seeking two enthusiastic and skilled Specialist Grade Doctors to join our expanding Ophthalmology team, with opportunities to develop a special interest in either Paediatric Ophthalmology or Medical Retina/Vitreoretinal (VR) services. These rewarding cross‑site roles are primarily based within our Northern Services, with additional clinics and theatre sessions delivered across Eastern Services, offering a rich and varied clinical experience.

Paediatric Ophthalmology Specialist Grade Doctor
In this role, you will work closely with the experienced Paediatric Consultant Team to deliver high‑quality paediatric ophthalmic care across Northern Services, including contributing to the ROP Screening Programme at NDDH. You will undertake independent squint surgery lists at NDDH and collaborate on joint theatre lists with consultants at the RDE. Participation in the first on‑call rota, predominantly covering Northern Services, may be required.
Medical Retina / Vitreoretinal Specialist Grade Doctor
This role includes running independent VR clinics at NDDH and joint clinics at the RDE, supporting the continued development of our Retina and Vitreoretinal services. Theatre lists at NDDH will initially focus on cataract surgery, providing opportunities to build operative volume and expertise. Participation in the second on‑call rota (1‑in‑6 prospective cover) may be expected to support the Consultant on‑call rota.
Both posts offer excellent scope for professional development, cross‑site working, and meaningful contribution to the future of Ophthalmology services across Devon.
