This Assistant Practitioner will work on the Private Inpatients Team at the Royal Brompton Hospital, supporting the cardiothoracic physiotherapy team and providing high‑quality rehabilitation for post‑operative cardiothoracic patients.


Responsibilities

* Assist in the provision of patient care, supervised by senior therapists.
* Carry out clinical tasks such as supervision of daily individual physiotherapy and more complex joint sessions.
* Conduct independent clinical assessments within the Assistant Practitioner competency framework.
* Plan and progress individualised rehabilitation programmes, reviewing progress with qualified therapists.
* Identify when a patient requires review by the physiotherapy team due to changing complexity of needs.
* Support discharge planning and advise on physiotherapy needs upon hospital discharge.
* Work weekends regularly to support the provision of daily rehabilitation.
* Perform complex aspects of assessment and patient care, including functional assessment procedures without direct supervision.
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date patient records and mandatory statistical information.
* Participate in audits, training and in‑service development sessions.
* Adhere to Trust policies and procedures, including infection control and safe manual handling techniques.
* Communicate effectively with patients, families and multidisciplinary team members.
* Promote the corporate image of the Trust and work collaboratively as a cohesive team member.


Qualifications

* Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent communication skills, both with other professionals and with patients and their carers.
* Previous experience working in healthcare, with demonstrated knowledge of rehabilitation and cardiology principles.
* Ability to work independently within the Assistant Practitioner competency programme under the supervision of specialist/senior therapists.
* Knowledge of safe practice, infection control and appropriate manual handling techniques.
* Commitment to maintaining high quality clinical standards and to continuous professional development.
