An exciting opportunity has arisen for two additional trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioners to join our existing ACCP programme within critical care.
The critical care team aims to develop the (ACCP) role by training and appointing eight ACCPs over four years. We look forward to welcoming ACCPs to our multidisciplinary team to help develop and shape our critical care service of the future.
The role involves extensive training according to the National competency framework for ACCP, with a training programme aligned to the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Curriculum for ACCPs, leading to an MSc degree in partnership with the University of Plymouth and eventual FICM membership. Applicants undertaking the apprenticeship will be supernumerary for two years.
Successful candidates will be appointed at Band 7 during training and will progress to Band 8a upon completing the MSc and FICM membership.
As a Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner, you should be an experienced clinician with extensive critical care knowledge and high-level clinical skills. Applicants from professional groups eligible for non-medical prescribing are encouraged to apply.
Please also submit an application to the Plymouth University ACCP course. Interviews for the university course will be held in conjunction with the UHD interview.
Base Location: Bournemouth/Poole/Christchurch
Interview Date: 16th June 2025
The ACCPs will work closely with the current critical care team and medical colleagues, working autonomously or under supervision to deliver care to Level 1-3 critically ill patients across the Trust. Their role includes reviewing patients on wards and in the Emergency Department, contributing to a flexible and sustainable critical care workforce.
The units are busy, progressive, with a focus on patient-centered care. In the next five years, two existing units will merge into a new critical care unit at the Royal Bournemouth site, offering an exciting opportunity to develop the ACCP role and services within UHD.
We plan to train 8 ACCPs over four years to support the new unit, emphasizing healthcare practice development through ownership, research, evidence-based practices, and multidisciplinary involvement.
You should be a motivated team player with excellent communication skills and a strong desire to develop and deliver outstanding care within the four pillars of advanced clinical practice, contributing to the Trust's strategy.
Our values define #TeamUHD, guiding how we treat patients, visitors, and colleagues. UHD is investing in service development, with some services moving sites as part of the New Hospital Programme. Managers can answer questions about potential relocations during interviews.
Note: If the role involves relocation, employees will not be eligible for excess mileage reimbursement; travel will be considered a normal commute.
