Clinical Imaging Assistant

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and self‑motivated individuals to join our X‑Ray Department as a Band 3 Clinical Imaging Assistant. The post will support patients undergoing ultrasound and radiographic examinations, assist procedures when necessary, and ensure health and safety and infection control are adhered to.
As a Clinical Imaging Assistant, you will help to prepare and reassure patients prior to and during their procedures. You will need good communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. You should be someone who is caring, reassuring, and calm in how you approach your work. You will also be responsible for ensuring the environment is safe, tidy, and meets a high standard of cleanliness.
The contracted hours are full time 37.5 hours per week across seven days. You will be on a shift rota at our Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites. Please note: this vacancy may close earlier than advertised, once a suitable number of applications have been received.
Main duties of the job
* Provide support to the Imaging service, undertaking patient registration, workload management.
* Assist consultant radiologists, radiographers, sonographers with patient care and act as a chaperone.
* Perform IV cannulation for patients undergoing contrast-enhanced imaging procedures (CT, MRI, NM) following Trust training and competency sign‑off.
* Set up trolleys for imaging procedures both sterile and non-sterile, using guidelines given.
* Assist the Radiologists & Radiographers in specialist sessions taking responsibility for patient care throughout the examination by observing, assisting and comforting when necessary.
* Deal with verbal and telephone requests.
* Assist effectively with patients in a variety of environments including multiple trauma cases, ultrasound, theatre, fluoroscopy suites, mammography and maintain a professional demeanour in potentially distressing circumstances.
* Maintain stock levels within the imaging department from the imaging stores.
* At times may need to undertake reception, clerical and other support duties.
Qualifications & Person Specification
* Able to read and write English
* Able to work well under pressure
* Self‑motivated
* Experience in health care setting
* Computer literate, inclusive of Microsoft Office applications
* Ability to follow procedures and policies
* Ability to work quickly and efficiently to a consistently high standard
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* IV Cannulation / Venepuncture Training
* NVQ in a patient‑care related subject
* Knowledge of hospital systems
* Knowledge of current computer system (e.g. Cerner, IEP, Soliton and PACS)
* Commitment to self‑development
