The role As a Trainee Patent Attorney at Adamson Jones, you will play a pivotal role in protecting the intellectual property assets of our clients. This position involves working on a broad range of technologies, assisting in the preparation and filing of patent applications, and contributing to the development of IP strategies. You will be working alongside highly qualified legal professionals both within Adamson Jones and throughout Gateley, and will be involved in direct client interactions, providing clear and concise advice on complex patent matters. This role is a gateway to becoming a fully qualified patent attorney, offering a challenging yet rewarding career path. Your responsibilities will include: Drafting patent applications, working closely with supervising attorneys to prepare robust patent applications that meet the commercial objectives of our clients. Supporting patent prosecution, including reviewing and preparing draft responses to examination reports from patent offices. Preparing reports and proposals for clients, for example outlining options for responding to examination objections or drafting advice regarding third-party patents. Drafting and amending patent claims, including: - Understanding the scope of an invention and drafting appropriate patent claim definitions - Preparing amendments to patent claims in response to examiner objections Preparing draft legal and technical arguments, including in relation to novelty and inventive step, under supervision. The person We are looking for candidates with the following: A strong academic background, a minimum 2:1 degree in a science or engineering discipline, ideally computer science, electronics, physics or a closely related field, supported by excellent A‑level results. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and confidently.
