West Berkshire Council is seeking an experienced and visionary Consultant in Public Health to join our public health service. This is an exciting time to join West Berkshire. The Council have an ambition to embed health and wellbeing across the whole council, and are supporting this with new investment to influence the building blocks of life.The role provides a unique opportunity to shape the health and wellbeing of our communities through strategic leadership, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative working across the Council and wider health system. As part of an exciting joint arrangement with Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, you’ll also provide 1-day support to deliver the Trust’s ambitions around preventative medicine and provide healthcare public health advice.As part of the senior leadership team, you will work closely with the Director of Public Health and senior leaders to deliver high-impact public health initiatives, reduce health inequalities, and protect our population from public health hazards. You will lead on healthcare public health, health intelligence, and the “core offer” to the NHS, while also contributing to the wider public health agenda across West Berkshire.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the development and delivery of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and health protection strategies.Provide expert public health advice to the Integrated Care Board and NHS partners, with a particular focus on developing ‘neighbourhood health’Champion the use of health intelligence and data to inform strategic decisions.Manage and support a multidisciplinary team including analysts and commissioning officers.Deputise for the Director of Public Health as required.Drive continuous improvement and best value across public health services.Represent the Council in emergency planning and health protection responses.Jointly advise and lead the development and delivery of RBFT’s plan for Public Health and Preventative Medicine.About YouWe’re looking for a dynamic leader with:Inclusion on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UKPHR for Public Health Specialists (or be within 6 months of inclusion in the registers).Significant senior management experience in public health.Proven ability to influence at a strategic level and lead complex partnerships.Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.A commitment to equity, sustainability, and community resilience.
