Description
GRADUATE / ASSISTANT BUILDING SURVEYOR
* SRVO
• £Competitive, aligned to experience
• Hybrid – London / South East
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for an Assistant Building Surveyor to join SRVO's Building Consultancy Division, supporting the delivery of a wide range of building surveying, project and compliance services across the UK.
This role is ideal for a recent Building Surveying graduate (or early-career surveyor) who wants structured development, broad technical exposure and a clear pathway towards MRICS.
You'll work closely with Building Surveying Directors, Associates and Senior Surveyors, supporting projects and professional instructions across residential, commercial and mixed-use assets. The work is varied, technically grounded and aligned to the skills and competencies required to progress through the APC.
ROLE EXPECTATIONS
You will work under the direction of Directors, Associates and Senior Surveyors, supporting the delivery of core Building Consultancy services across a varied client portfolio.
As your competence develops, you will gradually take on increased responsibility, managing elements of projects and instructions with appropriate supervision.
The role requires professionalism, attention to detail and a willingness to learn. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their development and wants to build strong technical foundations early in their career.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You'll be successful in this role if:
* You progress confidently through your APC pathway
* Your technical knowledge and judgement strengthen year on year
* You deliver accurate, well-structured professional outputs
* You build trusted relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors
* You actively engage with mentoring, CPD and structured development
HOW YOU'LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME
Most weeks, you'll be:
* Assisting with Project Management and Contract Administration on projects typically ranging from £50k to £2m+
* Preparing specifications and tender documentation for maintenance and refurbishment works
* Undertaking site inspections to inform scope of works and technical reporting
* Supporting JCT MW 2016 contract administration processes
* Assisting with Planned Preventative Maintenance reports and lifecycle planning
* Supporting reinstatement cost assessments
* Assisting with building defect analysis and technical advisory reports
* Supporting pre-acquisition surveys across residential, retail, commercial and industrial assets
* Assisting with dilapidations, licence for alterations and party wall matters under supervision
* Supporting CDM Principal Designer duties including PCI pack preparation and H&S file reviews
* Contributing to work linked to fire safety legislation and Building Safety Act requirements
* Logging APC competencies, experience and CPD activity
The role is hybrid, combining home working, office collaboration and site inspections across your region.
WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR
This role suits someone who:
* Has recently graduated from a RICS-accredited Building Surveying degree with a minimum 2:1
* Is planning to commence, or has recently commenced, the APC
* Wants structured, hands-on technical exposure rather than a siloed role
* Is motivated by long-term chartership and career progression
* Is comfortable working remotely and managing their own workload
A full UK driving licence is required, and national travel may be necessary, including occasional overnight stays.
EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS
* Exposure to building surveying, property, consultancy or construction environments
* Understanding of construction technology, building pathology and fire-related legislation
* Awareness of CDM Regulations and health and safety compliance
* Familiarity with JCT contracts
* Strong written communication skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office
* AutoCAD experience is advantageous but not essential
Residential sector exposure is beneficial but not required.
YOUR PATHWAY TO MRICS AT SRVO
We take chartership seriously and provide a structured and properly supported pathway, including:
* Dedicated MRICS-qualified supervisors and counsellors
* Regular progress reviews and competency planning
* Case study and ethics preparation support
* Fully funded professional fees, examinations and resits
* Protected time for APC development and CPD
For most graduates, this results in chartership within approximately 18 to 24 months, depending on entry point and engagement.
Beyond MRICS, there are clear progression routes into Senior Surveyor, Associate and technical leadership roles within SRVO and the wider Odevo Group.
WHAT WE OFFER
* Competitive salary aligned to experience
* Car allowance
* Discretionary bonus
* Remote / hybrid working model
* 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
