Head of Data Risk & Controls – UK
Location: Sheffield or Birmingham (Hybrid)
Overview
We are seeking a senior leader to join a Chief Control Office function, providing strategic oversight of Data Risk and Control Management for a UK Data & Analytics organisation within a large, complex financial services environment.
This role is critical to ensuring the organisation operates within its risk appetite by embedding a strong, forward‑looking risk and control culture, underpinned by effective governance, high‑quality data, and regulatory alignment.
The successful candidate will operate as a senior advisor to executive leadership, influencing risk outcomes across Data Quality & Integrity, Data & Records Management, and Data Privacy, while collaborating closely with partners across all lines of defence and global regions.
Purpose of the Role
1. Provide enterprise‑level leadership for data‑related risk and control management.
2. Shape the risk and control framework for Data & Analytics, ensuring it remains robust, future‑fit, and proportionate.
3. Act as the primary senior interface between the business, control functions, and external stakeholders on data risk matters.
4. Champion a strong, accountable risk culture across complex, global operating environments.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Risk & Control Leadership
5. Own and oversee the data risk and control portfolio, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
6. Lead the design, oversight, and continuous improvement of the data control environment, with a focus on effectiveness, sustainability, and automation.
7. Anticipate emerging risks and regulatory developments, proactively shaping control strategies to address future challenges.
Executive Advisory & Governance
8. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing clear, evidence‑based insight to support risk‑informed decision making.
9. Deliver succinct, high‑impact reporting on risk exposure, control effectiveness, and remediation activities to executive and governance forums.
10. Participate in and influence data‑related governance committees, steering discussion and outcomes at a senior level.
