Marine Water Quality Officer
We have two positions to backfill: one permanent and one fixed term for 6 months. The role involves applying technical expertise in marine environments, modelling and data analysis to support evidence‑based decisions concerning the impact of discharges on water quality and bathing water quality across key areas.
Responsibilities
* Provide timely answers to technical questions.
* Review reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Use data to inform water‑quality models.
* Apply sound records‑management principles.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work, escalating challenges when needed.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use initiative to contribute to the work of the team and wider organisation.
* Take part in incident response, with full training and support.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; professional membership desired.
* Experience in data analysis and knowledge of modelling software.
* Proficiency in Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, and specialist packages such as Mike or Cormix.
* Strong communication skills – clearly explain complex information to non‑technical audiences.
* Ability to interpret monitoring data and model outputs.
* Teamworking skills – build relationships across a dispersed team.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for national meetings.
* Desirable: knowledge of water quality and the marine environment.
Additional Information
Training and development opportunities will be provided. Flexible arrangements, including additional payment for incident response duties, may be offered. The role is fully remote with hybrid working options and requires occasional travel.
