This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team on a Band 5 to 6 Development Occupational Therapy role within the Occupational Therapy Team on Lavender Walk Adolescent Unit.
About Lavender Walk and Location
Lavender Walk is a 12 bed General Adolescent Unit (GAU) that cares for young people between 13–18 years old with complex mental health needs and emotional difficulties. It is part of Central & North West London (CNWL) Foundation Mental Health Trust and is located within the South Kensington and Chelsea Mental Health Centre (1 Nightingale Place, London, SW10 9NG). There are good transport links and a variety of local shops and amenities.
The Team
The Lavender Walk team includes Consultants, Clinical Psychologists, a Matron, Ward Manager, Qualified Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants, Speciality Doctors, Junior Doctors, Systemic Family Psychotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Activity Co-ordinators, Speech and Language Therapist, Dietician, Social Workers and Teaching staff. We regularly have students and trainees on placement with the team.
The Role and Candidate
We are looking for a motivated individual who is enthusiastic, creative, forward thinking and adaptable to work within our well established and welcoming team. The post would suit a current registered Band 5 OT who would like to gain valuable experience in inpatient CAMHS, or a newly qualified OT with relevant mental health experience and preceptorship.
Responsibilities
* Provide an Occupational Therapy service to young people experiencing mental health difficulties, developing therapeutic relationships with young people and their families/carers.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment and interventions to support recovery and reintegration into community settings.
* Deliver individual Occupational Therapy interventions and group work using assessment tools and recovery principles to plan, implement and evaluate treatment.
* Work closely with the Lead Occupational Therapist to facilitate and develop the unit’s therapeutic and activity program.
* Supervise fieldwork placements for Occupational Therapy students where appropriate.
* Meet a set of OT Band 6 competencies with the potential to progress to Band 6 on the ward.
Requirements and Development
* Current registration as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist; interest in inpatient CAMHS or equivalent mental health experience.
* Willingness to develop skills in line with College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics.
* Opportunities to supervise students and contribute to service development of Local CAMHS and Trust-wide OT services.
