About the team and the role
At Ocado Retail our Finance team plays a critical role in supporting the business to drive forward. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Financial Reporting & Controls Lead is responsible for our statutory reporting, financial controls and taxation, advising the business on technical accounting requirements and ensuring financial integrity is maintained.
The Financial Reporting & Controls Lead will have three direct reports with responsibility for a team of 6 split across 3 areas, Taxation, Financial Reporting and Controls. You will lead the team through the audit process, preparation of the Annual Report and Financial Statements, be the expert on technical accounting requirements, monitoring compliance and driving improvement for financial controls and deliver statutory results to our shareholders (M&S/Ocado Group). You will oversee the Tax Manager to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and payment of the correct taxes on a timely basis.
What you’ll do
1. Financial Reporting -You will be responsible for all of ORL’s statutory financial reporting, quarterly and half yearly reporting to both shareholders (M&S/Ocado Group) and externally, including coordinating ORL’s Annual Report and Financial Statements.
2. Technical Accounting Expert - Work closely with the Financial Controller and Finance teams to ensure all technical accounting matters are compliant with accounting standards and in-line with ORL accounting policies, advising on any changes and updates to policies as we grow.
3. Audit - Lead the relationship with our external auditors, ensuring the wider Finance team contributes effectively to the process. Coordinate the provision of internal audit services.
4. Financial Controls -Lead our second line Financial Controls team to implement the testing protocol and ensure adherence to our financial controls framework and compliance to shareholder requirements. Drive continual improvement in all areas of financial controls. Work closely with our auditors, stakeholders and external partners.
5. Tax - engage appropriately with external partners to obtain appropriate advice and guidance on complex tax matters, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and payment of the correct taxes on a timely basis.
6. Team Leadership & Development - Lead and develop a team of 6, including 3 managers, to support delivery of your team’s key responsibilities and partner across Finance to develop a culture of controls and accurate financial reporting.
Who you are
7. Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA).
8. Strong understanding of IFRS accounting standards and ability to apply them to complex scenarios and preparation of financial statements
9. Technical awareness and understanding of current and future controls requirements.
10. Experience of leading a team and being adaptive to conflicting priorities
11. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word with experience of Finance ERP Systems is desirable
12. Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, both internal & external to the business
13. A proactive individual that is passionate about driving change
